Hi, I’m Luke Mahon,

I specialise in, and am deeply passionate about, working with couples and relationships. I bring nearly a decade of experience supporting individuals through a wide range of trauma, addiction, and mental health challenges. I am privileged to be a father of two young children and have been partnered with my fiancée for nine years. We’ve called the Northern Rivers home for the past four years, having relocated north after the birth of our first child to be closer to loved ones.

About Luke:

Like many of my colleagues and professionals in the therapeutic field, I was initially drawn to this work to better understand and address my own personal struggles. Though I didn’t realise it at the time, I was also beginning a journey toward feeling more at ease with myself and in relationship with others. Fuelled by a deep fascination with the complexities of human behaviour—and particularly human relationships—I made a career change in my early twenties and remain deeply grateful to have found my path as a psychotherapist and counsellor.

I completed a Master of Gestalt Therapy following undergraduate studies in Somatic Psychotherapy. Since graduating, I have continued to develop my clinical and therapeutic skills in mental health facilities, treatment centres, and private practice. Over the past nine years, I have worked with individuals, groups, and family systems. I am a clinically registered psychotherapist through the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and Gestalt Australia and New Zealand (GANZ). I am also a qualified clinical supervisor.

I specialise in supporting healthy relationships and couples using the Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) model, which is grounded in decades of neuroscience research on attachment and relationships. I have further enhanced my work with couples through training in Terry Real’s Relational Life Therapy (RLT), a trauma-informed approach to relationship counselling.

Throughout my years of practice, I have continued to further develop my work with trauma by undertaking extensive training in modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Depth Enquiry (DE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT Tapping), integrating these with other process-oriented and somatic-based therapies. I have a long history in studying and practicing mindfulness and self-regulation practices which are fundamental in my approach.

Training and professional experience aside, my approach is fundamentally relational. I believe meaningful change begins with understanding and honouring our core needs. My work centres on creating a compassionate space where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered to explore their inner worlds. By fostering greater self-awareness and connection, I support individuals in developing more authentic and satisfying relationships with themselves and others.
